Life is not always fair. In fact, it can be downright cruel. For one bear in China, who had never known the loving touch of a human until the day she was rescued, this is especially true. She lived in a small space her whole life. She was cruelly forced to provide bile from her gallbladder. For 24 hours-a-day, she was bound by a metal vest and unable to move freely.

According to animalsasia.org, bear bile has been used in traditional Asian medicine for thousands of years. It contains high levels of Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA) known to be useful in treating liver and gallbladder conditions. In the past, bear bile would be obtained by hunting bears in the wild and killing them to remove their gallbladders.

Caesar had an open wound on her side where they accessed the bile. “It’s the worst imaginable bile-farm torture,” Animals Asia, who saved Caesar, said about the vest. This went on for years, with no hope of escape. Then, one day, these animal advocates came to her rescue and her life was turned around.

Caesar had suffered for years at the hands of some cruel people until 2004, when Animals Asia, an animal rescue group, found her and several other lucky bears. Fortunately, Caesar was one of the ones to escape the bile industry. Check her out now!

Today, she is one happy, healthy, and extremely lucky bear. Caesar’s scars have all but disappeared and, today, she is a beautiful bear. Thanks to Animals Asia, she was finally able to break free of the awful vest and get the love and care she needed and deserved.
