If you’re anything like me, you go to a restaurant and instantly begin scanning over the dessert options. When you come across fried ice cream, without fail, you always wonder how in the world something this crazy is created.
Fried ice cream is a dessert that continues to baffle young and old. How can something so cold and creamy be fried, yet still remain intact but, exponentially better? It’s a food phenomenon!
The few times I’ve eaten fried ice cream, I was at a loss for words. Not only is it an incredibly intriguing dessert, it’s unbelievably scrumptious! The outer coating has the perfect amount of sweetness and crunch and the inside is a smooth, creamy vanilla ice cream. It’s hard to top that combination!
While I do enjoy cooking quite frequently, this is one dessert I have always been a little hesitant to attempt. First of all, I don’t own a fryer deep enough to completely submerge a battered ball of ice cream. Secondly, I can’t seem to wrap my mind around how I would keep them intact. Is there any way to make this differently?
To my amazement, there is! Gemma Stafford from Bigger Bolder Baking has created a version of fried ice cream that requires no frying whatsoever.
This version is created so that you can get the same delicious flavoring and texture that you’d find in a traditional fried ice cream without the use of a fryer! If you don’t have to fry something, why would you when you could make the exact same thing without the added oil and grease?
The similarity between the original version and the non-fried version is uncanny! Check out the recipe on the following page to see just how crazy easy this no-fry fried ice cream is to make at home.
