With the cold of winter upon us, I can't help but be thankful for the warm, cozy house that I have and share with my two furry companions. While they are in a safe and warm place, I know that there are many cats out there that have no shelter from the elements.
I was curious how I could provide a cat with a shelter that did not have a home. I went online the other day and just happened to come across this post from Kitten Lady, Hannah Shaw, about making insulated shelters for cats.
It turns out that this a fairly simple project that is both inexpensive and a great way to enhance the lives of cats that are happy living outdoors and would not want to be placed in a shelter.
Here is what you need:
18-gallon plastic tub with lid
Duct tape
X-Acto knife
Straw - be sure it is straw and not hay
Mylar - will be reflective of the cat's body heat
Sheets of styrofoam for extra insulation
